Beauty: Skin Functional Vitamin A (Retinol, 0.5%)

The Skin Functional 0.5% Retinol, has been a game-changer in my skincare regime, keep reading to find out why!

Retinol (a form of retinoid) is derived from Vitamin A. Retinol helps boost collagen which aids in treating my fine lines. The exfoliating properties helped reduce my pores and treat my melasma.

Retinol is quite a potent active which is why I gradually incorporated it into my nighttime routine. I initially used it three times a week before my moisturiser, as recommended by Skin Functional. I now use it every second night. Some people experience redness, dryness, and stinging when using retinol, which is why I opted for the 0.5% formula. It is best to start low when using retinol for the first time, and gradually add it into your routine. Personally, I would stay on 0.5% as it doesn’t irritate my skin and produces the results I was aiming for.

The Skin Functional formula contains glycerine which helps combat the drying effect of retinol. To ensure you do not experience any stinging feeling, Skin Functional incorporated panthenol, an anti-inflammatory. The bottle is not opaque, so you are unable to ascertain if it has oxidized or not as you use it. For this reason, I ensure that the bottle is stored in its original box and in my drawer to avoid any contact with sunlight.

With the above in mind, I absolutely loved using the Skin Functional retinol serum, and will definitely repurchase it. Retinol has become a staple in my evening routine and the SF formula has made it a pleasant experience to incorporate retinol into my routine.

I purchased my Skin Functional Retinol from RetailBox. It is also available directly from Skin Functional as well as Superbalist. Skin Functional has a loyalty programme if you are buying directly from their website, and also provide further guidance in using their products.

With love, Riv
