Beauty: Heliocare SPF

What better way to welcome spring than with a look at one of spring's essential skincare products, an SPF. Over the years the importance of applying an SPF has been made abundantly clear regardless of the forecast. Having used the same SPF brand for years, I decided to switch. Was it the right or wrong choice? Well, you are going to have to read to find out.
Heliocare is a vegan-friendly Spanish brand. Their products are alcohol-free and provide a high level of UVA and UVB protection. Heliocare recently introduced the Heliocare 360 range which protects the skin against visible light and infrared-A. Heliocare as a brand does not promote animal testing, however, the brand is sold in China which has separate testing laws. Whilst alternate testing methods have been introduced in the country, it is uncertain if it is followed at the Heliocare factories despite the brand encouraging a cruelty-free approach.

A key ingredient of Heliocare is called Fernblock, which is an antioxidant of a natural plant. Fernblock is, “designed to protect against harmful free radicals in the environment. Fortified with a specialized blend of antioxidants to fight back against the aging effects of the sun and free radicals.” Heliocare offers a broad spectrum of 50+ SPF that is alcohol-free, water safe, NAFE safe, and provides UV stability. While it ticks a lot of boxes, the product is heavily fragranced.

I apply my SPF daily after my moisturiser. Where possible I try to reapply during the day, but that is not always successful. The Heliocare Spf is a lightweight cream-gel texture, which is heavily (peach) scented. The product is easily absorbed leaving no white cast. On days that I use makeup, my makeup applies effortlessly over the SPF. The texture of the product is smooth and leaves a subtle glow on the skin. Further, there is no pilling.

Overall I was thoroughly pleased with the Heliocare SPF. I definitely noticed a difference between this product and my previous SPF brand. The only negative to the product is that some may find the fragrance intense; however, the scent does not trouble me. The grey area with regard to the animal-testing is also troubling.  Heliocare is available at your nearest Sorbet store and retail box for R337.00.
